we are a contemporary art gallery + tattoo studio

About us

Distortion Society was founded in 2023 by husband-and-wife duo Bradley Silver (a tattoo artist) and Michelle Silver (a painter). Merging eclectic styles of tattooing and contemporary art exhibitions, DS aims to blur the lines between body art and fine art, breaking stigmas associated with each space, putting into question the ideas of high brow vs lowbrow art and elevating both the gallery and tattoo experiences through their intersection.

The exhibition space at the front features bimonthly presentations of national and international artist's work; the tattoo studio features accomplished resident and guest tattooers working in a range of unique styles.

Distortion Society is right on Main Street in Beacon, New York, 90 minutes on the MetroNorth train from Grand Central in NYC. It is walking distance from the MetroNorth Hudson Line’s Beacon stop. Beacon is a beautiful, diverse and welcoming small city and part of the vibrant art scene in Upstate New York and the Hudson Valley.

MISSION + ETHICS

Distortion Society is an inclusive environment that embraces all bodies. We do not exclude based on ability, sexuality, gender, identity, religion, race, or body type. We tattoo all skin colors. We celebrate art made by diverse artists. We work to uplift and engage with our community.

FAQs

  • Nope, sorry! Just tattoos and art.

  • Yes we do! As long as the tattoo artist who is working that day has availability. Please stop in - our desk personnel can answer your questions and often times the artist can take a break to discuss your idea even if they are tattooing at the time of your arrival.

You can also call us to see if we have availability for walk-ins that day: (845) 202-0680

  • Sure can! We always ask at the beginning whether or not you would like to be enclosed by a privacy screen(s) so should you need privacy, we can happily accommodate.

  • All tattoo, consultation and artwork deposits are non-refundable. The price paid for your tattoo appointment deposit will come out of the price for your last day of tattooing. For instance, if your tattoo takes 3 sessions, on the third session, the deposit you paid will be deducted from the price you pay that day.

  • Yes they are! Sometimes tattoo appointments happen outside of our normal business hours. As long a you have an appointment, you're good to go!

  • We have an open submission process and look at all proposals that are sent to us! You may submit a proposal to Gallery Director Michelle Silver via email michelle@distortionsociety.com. Although we look at all proposals, please understand that we may not be able to respond to every email, and that open submissions does not guarantee that we will be able to host or accommodate your project!

  • We usually rotate exhibitions every 2 months. Each exhibition has an opening reception. Our Exhibitions page is a good resource for this, as is our instagram!

  • Please email Gallery Director Michelle Silver at michelle@distortionsociety.com for a list of all available work.
